Who We Serve

Mental Health Care Tailored to Older Adults

Aging brings unique mental health challenges that most general psychiatric providers aren’t trained to address. At Lumora, we specialize exclusively in the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral health needs of adults 65 and older — and we treat the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

Adults with Late-Life Depression

Feeling persistently low, hopeless, or withdrawn? Depression in older adults is highly treatable — and often missed.

Those Managing Anxiety & Worry

Chronic worry, panic, or nervousness doesn't have to define your later years. We provide evidence-based relief.

Adults with Memory Changes

Noticing forgetfulness or confusion? We offer cognitive screening and behavioral management for dementia-related conditions.

Caregivers of Aging Loved Ones

Caregiver burnout is real. We offer consultations to support those caring for spouses, parents, and family members.

Those Dealing with Grief & Loss

Losing a spouse, independence, or identity is profound. We help older adults navigate life's hardest transitions.

Adults on Multiple Medications

Polypharmacy is one of the greatest risks for older adults. We review all medications with geriatric dosing expertise.

Our Services

What We Offer

From your first evaluation through ongoing care, we’re with you every step of the way.

Psychiatric Evaluation

Your first appointment is a comprehensive, 60-minute evaluation — not a rushed intake. We review your full history, current symptoms, medications, and goals to build a care plan designed around you.

Medication Management

Safe, effective psychiatric medication management with deep expertise in geriatric dosing. We take polypharmacy seriously — reviewing all your medications to minimize risk and maximize benefit. Follow-up visits available via telehealth for your convenience.

Cognitive Screening

Not sure if memory changes are normal aging or something more? We offer structured cognitive assessments including the MoCA, MMSE, and depression/anxiety screens — with referrals to neurology if needed.

Collaborative Care (for PCPs)

We partner with your primary care physician so your mental health care doesn't happen in a silo. Through our Collaborative Care Model, Lumora consults directly with your doctor — keeping everyone on the same page.

Caregiver Support

Caring for a loved one with dementia, depression, or declining health is emotionally and physically draining. We offer dedicated consultations for family caregivers — because your mental health matters too.

Geriatric Group Therapy

Our small, supportive virtual groups connect older adults experiencing similar challenges — late-life depression, grief, and adjustment to aging. Groups meet weekly via telehealth and are covered by Medicare.

Why Lumora

What Makes Us Different

Psychiatric Care Built Specifically for Older Adults

01

Geriatric Specialization — Not General Psychiatry

Most psychiatric providers treat patients across all ages. We focus exclusively on adults 65 and older — which means we understand the unique biology, life stage, and medication considerations that come with aging. You won't be treated with a one-size-fits-all approach.

02

Same-Week Appointments — Always

Mental health challenges don't wait for openings. We maintain same-week availability for new patients because we know how important it is to be seen quickly — especially for older adults who have been waiting too long for care.

03

In-Person or Telehealth — Your Choice

Visit us in our Mechanicsville office or meet with us from the comfort of your home. Our secure telehealth platform is simple to use and available to patients across Virginia — especially in areas like Caroline and Louisa Counties where geriatric psychiatric care doesn't exist.

04

Medicare & Medicaid Accepted

We accept Medicare Traditional, Medicare Advantage plans, and Virginia Medicaid. We believe cost should never be a barrier to mental health care for older adults who've spent a lifetime in the workforce.

05

Part of the Lumora Integrated Care Family

As part of Lumora Psychiatric & Rejuvenation PLLC, your care doesn't stop at a single appointment. Our broader practice offers addiction recovery services, IV wellness therapy, and residential support — so if your needs grow, your care team already knows you.

We prioritize same-week availability for new patients. In most cases you will be seen within 5–7 business days of requesting a consultation.

Geriatric psychiatry is a specialty focused on the mental health of older adults. The aging brain processes medications differently, and conditions like late-life depression, anxiety, and dementia-related behavior require specialized training. Our provider brings that focused expertise — rather than treating older adults the same as younger patients.

Yes. Medicare Part B covers outpatient psychiatric services, including evaluation and management visits and medication management. We also accept Medicare Advantage and Virginia Medicaid. We will verify your specific coverage before your first appointment.
